HORSELL AWARDED $53.6M CONTRACT FOR SUPPLY OF “TJIOY” STEALTH TECHNOLOGY TO AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE FORCE
'Tjioy' is an ancient Norse name said to translate to the modern word 'vision' signalling not only the heritage of the name Horsell upon which the company is founded, but representing the disruptive technology that TJIOY delivers to global militaries.
Hengist and Horsa were Germanic brothers said to have led the Angles, Saxons and Jutes in their invasion of Britain in the 5th century. Tradition lists Hengist as the first of the Jutish kings of Kent. According to early sources, Hengist and Horsa arrived in Britain at Ebbsfleet on the Isle of Thanet. For a time, they served as mercenaries for Vortigern, King of the Britons, but later they turned against him (British accounts have them betraying him in the Treachery of the Long Knives). Horsa was killed fighting the Britons, but Hengist successfully conquered Kent, becoming the forefather of its kings.
The TJIOY Stealth Technology was first derived in early 2021 during the long lockdowns that Melbourne had to endure and with the assistance of a team of partners and venture capitalists, the technology was brought to life right here in Australia. Like any good idea, word quickly flowed to the necessary decision makers and a concept trial in mid 2021 was developed into a Rapid Acquisition and test and evaluation activity over the 2021/22 period where results were provided to Defence in January 2022.
In February Horsell responded to a limited procurement and a contract was signed with an Effective Date of 1 April 2022 for the delivery and support of a Deployable Joint Force.
